It seems to me....

It seems to me that John Piper is saying that I have died in my flesh and have been risen in Jesus. This sounds fine and all, but i am finding it hard to believe that our entire lives have been commanded this way. Being the type of guy that I am i am finding it difficult to believe what this man is saying. In the third question, you ask what areas we are and arent living by faith and I am going to come out and say this, most of my life hasnt been living in faith these last couple of weeks. Its not so bad, living this way. I have found a sort of happieness in this. I have a wonderful life. A couple things that can be changed, nothing i cant do by myself. So Mr. John Piper, thanks but no thanks. I appreaciate what you do, but i am not going to believe in something that i have no feeling about.

  1. Kyle-
Thanks for the honest blog. It's refreshing that you are writing what you think, and not what will get a certain grade. I wish every student at OBA would be honest about their beliefs. That said, I have a couple comments.

    1. You say "This sounds fine and all, but i am finding it hard to believe that our entire lives have been commanded this way."
My question is that based on Galatian 2:20, is there anything in the passage that suggests we can have part of our life "crucified to Christ," but the rest of our life lived out however we want?

    2. The last couple weeks of your life have been lived without much faith, and your happiness level has been actually increasing. Do you think it's possible that someone's happiness level can increase for a time without faith - even 50 years - but in the end it won't be as happy as the joy found in surrendering all to Christ? For example, you mentioned that the things in your life are completely controllable right now for you. What if you lived in Niger and no matter how hard you worked, there would be no way to get enough food on your table and your entire family was malnourished. Would your happiness level be like it is right now in the USA? That worldview you are talking about works well here in the USA because you can find happiness and comfort, but there are places in most of the world where that is absolutely unattainable in the physical body - and it's by no fault of the people. In those cases, living by faith would be a means for them to see above what this present world has to offer.

Just some thoughts, thanks again for being candid. I hope you continue to be honest about faith matters like this.
